“What is happening in this country right now?” Well, that may be something we’re all asking in a variety of ways, relating to a variety of things.

On a more specific note, what in the world is going on with the labor market?

This is the question that Frankie Boyer, host of the award winning Frankie Boyer Radio Show asked College Recruiter’s founder and Chief Visionary Officer, Steven Rothberg just the other week. Steven explains that for the class of 2021, this unprecedented inverted job market is actually “good news.”

Rather than taking the first opportunity that comes their way, he says that job seekers with 0-3 years of experience should now be “choosy” when searching for jobs, a change from just a few months ago.

Business owners may be wondering, “do I really want to hire someone right out of college? What do you say to them?”

For business owners, Steven explains that they must begin taking candidate’s needs into considering, not just their own. Employers must sit down and figure out whether their position is right for a recent grad; some will be and some won’t. He details how and why business owners must “stop pretending that it’s 1982” in regards to wages. Companies must stop offering jobs at minimum wage and expecting anyone to “want to work for them.”
