Unit Secretary - PT 60% - Days - Mother/Infant

Job Description

The Unit Secretary collaborates with the clinical team to coordinate all aspects of patient care and transition out of the hospital setting. He/She is responsible for performing duties related to patient admission, transfer, and discharge, communication with patients, guests and staff, electronic health records maintenance, and other duties of a clerical nature. The Unit Secretary assists with coordinating the communication and organization of their inpatient unit. This individual provides clerical support to the care team including but not limited to: EMR navigation, scheduling appointments, preparing forms or paperwork, greeting patients/families, ordering supplies, handling mail and answering telephones. He/She must display strong interpersonal skills as these professionals consistently act as a liaison in facilitating communication with or between other care providers and visitors directly or via telephone. A prime importance to this position is the ability to maintain control and order under stressful conditions and periods of high unit activity, while utilizing effective and respectful communication with patients, families, and the health care team. As one of the initial points of contact for the nursing units, the unit secretary must display a high level of professionalism, compassion and empathy. This position has limited clinical requirements, has access to confidential patient information and works collaboratively with the care team under the indirect supervision of the Nurse Manager.

Required Education: HS Diploma or GED

Required Certification: CPR - Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification

Required Experience: One year of experience in a medical or customer service environment or experience of a similar nature
