As a Billing Accountant supporting the accounting team, you will be responsible for high volume customer billing and submitting invoices with supporting documents using various delivery methods. This role will also be responsible for entering and maintaining relevant billing data in the accounting software and help with recording and updating customer information and payment information. The ideal candidate has excellent problem-solving and communication skills and enjoys working in a challenging and complex environment. In this role, you will:

  • Process monthly, quarterly, or annual customer invoices related to subscription products in line with customer contracts.

  • Calculate and process transactional or usage billing associated with customer contracts in accordance with billing terms.

  • Process invoices or credit memos to customers for changes in service levels or products upgrades or downgrades purchased.

  • Timely response to customer inquiries regarding billing or request for invoices.

  • Work closely with the order management and renewals teams to ensure critical documents are in order for billing and resolve any issues that arise.

  • Assume the responsibility of receiving and sorting incoming payments with attention to detail.

  • Process automatic payments for invoices generated in accordance with the customer's payment terms.

  • Work cross functionally to resolve account discrepancies and verify and record accurate transactions timely.

  • Monitor customer account details for non-payment, delayed payments, and other irregularities.

  • Work closely with the collections department to review accounts, client payments, credit history and develop new and better repayment terms.

  • Perform assigned monthly, quarterly, and annual general ledger closing processes, including preparation of journal entries and general ledger account reconciliations in an accurate and timely manner.

  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the business structure, products, and operations, to ensure accurate billing and payment application for customer accounts.

  • Contribute to the efficiency of the accounting team by participating in cross-training, sharing job responsibilities, and serving as position backup for other team members.

  • Collaborate with team members and other departments to ensure proper accounting for transactions.

  • Develop and maintain appropriate internal accounting controls, systems, and procedures around billing and cash collection to ensure both timely and accurate financial reports.

  • Document policies, procedures and workflows for assigned areas of responsibility.

  • Develop and implement process improvement initiatives, to reduce errors, improve efficiency, remove redundancy, expedite reporting and enhancing business reporting initiatives.

  • Support month-end analysis and reporting requests as well as ad-hoc projects as needed.

  • Play a key role in the annual audit process with external auditors.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in an accounting role with experience processing invoices or working in an accounts receivable capacity

  • Knowledge of U.S. GAAP.

  • A successful track record of improving processes and procedures.

  • Familiarity with Intacct and Avalara is strongly preferred.

  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Excel.

  • Experience with accounting concepts related to the SaaS industry is strongly preferred.

  • Ability to work well in a team-oriented and intensely deadline-driven environment.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to relate and communicate effectively across all levels of staff inside and outside the department.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a hybrid environment, including proactively seeking solutions from internal and external resources.

  • Ability to prioritize projects, quickly determine the requirements to accomplish them, and analyze the processes to figure out how to simplify, automate and improve them for increased efficiency.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information and a sense of strong business ethics.

Compensation

The range displayed on this job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and in addition to benefits this role may be eligible for discretionary bonuses/incentives, and equity.

US Base Salary Range: $70,000 - $90,000

Please note that the compensation range and benefits specified in this job posting is applicable to candidates based in the United States. For international applicants, actual salary offers and benefit plans may vary based on the local market compensation standards and will be determined in accordance with regional considerations, including but not limited to applicable laws, cost of living, and industry norms.
